The Iran National Rowing and Boating Federation has said it is not going to take legal action against anyone for the death of Marziyeh Babaabbasi, 36, a rower from Lorestan Province

Federation says this was just something that happened!

Shirzanan: Nasrin Afzali /translated by Roja Najafi: Marziyeh Babaabbasi, a 36-year old member of Lorestan Province’s rowing team, was highly organized and “the first to show up for every practices sessions,” her teammates say.

In answering criticisms of Tehran’s emergency services and their many errors regarding this death, Abdollahi, the supervisor of Tehran’s emergency department performance and service quality control says, “In 2006 there was a regulation demanding every hospital emergency room and casualty to have an ambulance equipped with CPR Equipment and Defibrillations (EAD).”

“Apparently, the ER that Marziyeh was taken to was not equipped. And unfortunately the incident happened around 10:30 on Friday evening, when we have the highest level of emergency traffic. Tehran’s west and north side did not have any ambulances available.”

“According to universal standards we need to have one ambulance for every 10,000 to 16,000 people. In Tehran with 8 million populations at night we need to have at least 500 – 600 ambulances active but we only have 123 ambulance. That’s why the emergency department has to rank its priorities, and unfortunately Marziyeh was not a high priority.”

On May 5th her body was buried in her hometown, Khoramabad. She left behind two sons and one daughter aged 16, 14 and 14. Who will be responsible for her death?

The head of the Boating and Rowing Committee of Lorestan Province has started a legal action against Azadi Stadium infirmary for their irresponsible action and wrong diagnosis, against Kimia infirmary for not having an oxygen- equipped ambulance and against Tehran Emergency Department for their slow and inept performance.
