The Only female athlete in Olympics is missing

Shirzanan: The only female runner from Afghanistan who has passed Olympics qualifications for 2008 Beijing Olympic has gone missing last week while she was in Italy for a summer preparatory camp. Mahbooba Ahadgar is due to compete next month in Olympics games, in the 800 meters and 1,500 meters. The 19th-year old Mahbooba was the subject of constant death threats from the extremist groups close to Taliban. Shirzanan: Negar Khosravi /translated by Roja Najafi: Dragon boat racing is a the name of yet another boating sports which was added to he boating and water sports federation three years ago. Despite the fact that dragon boat racing is a newly born sport in Iran everyone expects the best results when it comes to international competitions; and perhaps the brilliant performance of Iran’s national team in Taiwan’s world championship has added to the federation’s expectations.

The rowers as well as the federation authorities believe in wining medals and expect to perform well enough to get to one of the top three places; their next platform will be Asian Games in Malaysia.

It is the 35th day of the women’s national dragon boat team’s preparatory camp, which is held on the bank of Azadi Stadum’s lake. They are continuing their practices even when their Russian coach is away for 15 days. While in vacation,Victor Kesilov, the Russian head coach of Iran’s boating team, gave a practicing schedule to his assistants. Dragon Boat is an Asian sport and Iran’s team is trying to get to the level of Asia’s champions.
