Women in Olympics’ History

Shirzanan: Solmaz Sharif /translated by Roja Najafi: At last the 2008 Beijing Olympics has started and with it another chance was given to the professional athletes to make their dreams come true. Whether it is their first time or not, the Olympics are the happiest moment in the lives of all of the athletes. Thanks to these exciting competitions Olympic Games are the most attractive sports programs in the world. People from all over follow the games partly to follow their compatriots and sometimes to purely enjoy Olympics. By sure as an attraction source economy becomes crucial in the Olympic Games and where economy matters politics gets involved.

The Iranian W-athletes’ presence in Olympics

With the start of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games an energetic debate has started among the sports journalists about the Olympic outcomes; hopes are high on Iran’s wrestling and athletics teams and there are some optimism regarding other events. But the votes is highly unanimous on Iran’s three women athletes, that since it is their first presence in Olympics and since they usually are under budget compare to Iran men’s team it is highly unlikely for them to obtain any medals.

Mehri Ranjbar, sports journalist for Iran Varzeshi, who is an expert in women’s sports, explains, “Our girls are very young, they are motivated but inexperienced. They have a very tough road ahead of them competing with the best and the most experienced athletes in the world. I believe that this time will be a good experience for their next Olympic games. We shouldn’t expect any medals from them and we should support them if they just pass one level and went to the next level. We should be happy that the Taboo of Iranian women athletes is broken.”
