Shirzanan – Solmaz Sharif: One says, “they are the virtues of the regime’s security and their presence on international athletic fields dismissed all the gender discrimination allegation of the Islamic Republic.” Another says, “They are our Namoos ‘one’s Family, wives and daughters’ we have to protect them, their presence on the athletic fields is bad for our religion.” The other says, “look at them, dressed like penguins, they cannot even run. The only solution Isteghlal club officials came up with

Ignoring the Issue and Erasing the problem

Shirzanan – Translation by Roja Najafi: One week after a friendly soccer match between the boys and girls youth teams of Isteghlal Club its news made headlines. As the result of this scandal the head of Isteghlal club decided to disband the Isteghlal women’s team all together. Many believe that the disbandment of women’s team is the direct result of the club’s manager’s mistakes in the past.

The first person who reacted to the cancellation of women’s team as the result of one soccer match between boys and girls team was the head of women’s soccer in football federation. Fatemeh Alipour, in an interview with Pars said that, “ The decision of Isteghlal Club owners and managers are not fair and it is far from a rational decision. They didn’t want to accept the responsibility of their actions so they made it easy and disband the club’s women’s soccer team. We cannot interfere with this decision officially.”

Sa’diyeh Pournader, the head coach of Isteghlal women’s soccer team who is considered one of the wrongdoers in this case is called to appear in front of a disciplinary committee. She is also shocked by the news of demobilization of her team.

She says, “ I don’t know why they make all this fuss about a mixed practice session.” She continues, “ We have always practices on soccer field number 3 in Azady Stadium. But our contract with them ended and we used the Marghobkar Salon in the available hours. The boy’s team didn’t know we are there. Unfortunately no one cares about the integrity of women; they make it to look like a scandal.”
