Last year the first national competitions of Iranian women’s softball players took with the participation of 4 teams. The champion of these competitions was the Boushehr team. During the summer of that same year, another round of competitions took place in which 11 teams participated. At the second round of competitions, Tehran A became the first team and Boushehr and Tehran B became respectively second and third. Tehran A won its last game with a 17 to 10 result.

It was after these competitions that the girls of Choob and Toop wrote a letter to the head of the Physical Training of Boushehr. Here is an excerpt of the letter;

All the work that the authorities, coaches and athletes have done resulted in the success of women’s softball team of Boushehr which makes us happy and proud. However, we are afraid that the mothers of our society whose mental and physical health should be the priority of our society do not get enough attention. We wonder whether you do not think that the athletes of this province who became second in the nation should not be praised and encouraged to continue their great work. These athletes have worked in the heat of the summer and cold of the winter. They have succeeded in making Boushehr, the land of courage and patriotism, proud with their work. These athletes have had to pay even for their cover that costs 500 Toman (1.5 dollars). They have had to pay for their own transportation and winter outfits. They are disappointed. Thus, I am asking you to please pay more attention to these great women of our country and province. I ask you to please thank the coach of Boushehr’s women’s softball team, Mrs. Monireh Rastian, who has done a lot for the improvement and advancement of this sport.

It is important to mention that softball is in fact, American softball. This first women’s softball team was at West Division High School in Chicago in 1895. This team did not have a coach for professional that could train the athletes for more important games until 1899. Baseball is a popular sport in the US. A basic version of baseball was common in 15th Century in England. As the British began to immigrate to the United States, this sport arrived in the US by the beginning of 17th Century and by the beginning of 18th Century it became very common in the East Coast. In 1876 periodical competitions of baseball started in the US.
