Girls Who Fearlessly Paddled in the United States:

Shirzanan: Leli Khorsandi

In order to prepare for Whitewater Slalom Olympic games three Iranian teenage paddlers, with the help and arrangements of their coach, have been camping in the US. However Iranian Boating & Paddle Sport Federation has provided us with divided views on this matter. The participation and presence of the three young Iranian female paddlers in the American practice camp brings up many wonders in organizers of both side: Iran and the United Stats. This matter becomes more crucial specifically since Iranian Physical Education Organization has not reached a mutual agreement with the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affaires about any close relationship between the athletes of two countries (Iran and America) on the contradictory issues such as of fingerprinting of Iranian athlete at the United States borders.

Both Iranians who had officially denied American invitation for camping and Americans who had seen heavily cloth Iranian women athletes, covered from head to toe attending the games were surprised. Although Iranians had rejecting US invitation for sending their highest ranked athletes to this summer camp, Roksana Razeghian, Shady Kalantary and Kimya Vaezy, three teenage paddlers from Esfahan along with Katayoon Ashraf, their coach got their visas from Dubai and have entered the United States with Visitors visa.

Whitewater Slalom is a new sport in Iran and the spokeswoman for Iranian Boating and Paddled Sports Federation; Mahin Farhadzi declares that these three paddlers are beginners in this branch of boating. In any case this one-month training camp has been a very valuable time for our fearless young paddlers.
