Shirzanan:Solmaz Sharif / Translation by Roja Najafi: Shirzanan’s last week news report that covered the side stories on Iran-India women’s football match brings a critical question to mind. What is the Physical & Athletic Education Organization’s policy on making Iran women’s sport internationally professional? Is it going to build a fence in the way of its improvements? Are we going to let women’s sport move in a closed circle forever? If the goal was to have a closed circle, we had a primitive version of that circle two decades ago, also. The problem of Iran’s women’s sport is not a new debate; this problem is 25 years old. It has lived that long quietly out of sight because of that gigantic fence around it.......

At the end of Rasht International Squash Competitions

Iranian squash players played with the best

Shirzanan:Translation by Roja Najafi: For the first time, Iran squash federation was the host of women’s international squash tournament. Last week in Rasht these series of competitions ended with Pakistan as the champion of the games. Carla Khan from Pakistan won her Australian opponent, Donna Urquhart 3 to 1 and became the champion. The game took 63 min. Squash players from Australia, Netherlands and India came 2nd, 3rd and 4th among 30 participants.

Kasra Ghafourifard, the head of these competitions told IRNA: “ in this series our best women squash players played against though opponents from all over the world. Carla Khan is one of the most famous players in the world. Her presence extended these games to a higher level. All of our eight semi-finalists were from other countries. Iran came out in the 16th place and it is a positive outcome.” He continued: “If Iran’s team keep up with its practices soon, we can obtain better results.”

Carla Khan also expressed her feelings “in the past years Iran women’s squash team has an obvious progress. I was here, in Iran two year ago and I can see; the difference is a lot. They got much better.”
