Interview
A golfer from Iran women’s national golf team in an interview with Shirzanan
Being well connected matters the most in golf
Shirzanan:Fereshteh Movahed/Translation by Roja Najafi: A former member of women’s national golf team, Firozeh Mohammad-Zamani, who has been playing golf for about 12 years now talks about her concerns. She says: “the most important problem that the golf team faces is that the connections matters more than other things.”
Mrs. Mohammad-Zamani how do you see the situation of women’s golf in Iran?
Golf in Iran is only 7 years old and we can say we progress a lot in these 7 years both in Asia and in the country. Unfortunately compare to other athletic fields we pay less attention towards golf.
What is Iran’s place in Asia in golf?
Regrettably we don’t have a high ranking with in Asia, but based on the golf federation’s activities we should be happy to have at least a name within the continent. No one expect us to be the champion of Asian games.
What kind of deficiencies we face in this field?
The most important one is the lack of a standard golf course. We only have one golf course. I believe if we had more golf courses both in and out side the capital we could elevate our ranking in golf and create more competitions.
How do you see women’s interest in this sport?
Women have a tremendous interest in playing golf, but unfortunately they can only play if they are well connected. Golf has become like ski. By that I mean only a limited number of people have the chance of playing it and those who can do not let anyone else in. It is not a healthy atmosphere and authorities should consider this point, so we can prevent it. We need everyone’s help so we can do better and better in golf.
