Looking over the history of Women’s Football (soccer) in Iran

Shirzanan:translation by Roja Najafi: If they ask you: “when was women’s football in Iran founded?” what will be your guess? How many of you would think women’s football in Iran has the history of 38 years. When we heard it from Khadijeh Sepanji, the former deputy manager of Iran football federation on women’s affair, that women’s football in Iran has a background of 38 years we were astonished. Sepanji says that women’s football in Iran started in 1970 when, for the first time, in smaller cities women entered men’s local football teams as a goalkeeper or a player. Based on this and with women’s increasing interest in football Iran football federation decided to send some of these women to FIFA’s coaching classes to learn football.......

Shirzanan:Shabnam Shakorian/translation by Roja Najafi: After a year of waiting for the result of the election for the football federation’s board of directors, finally the election was held in a non-competition atmosphere. The feeling of the electoral competition was only seen between the two candidates for the new deputy manager on women’s affair, Sepanji and Shojaaie. The northern gate of Enghelab Club was packed with reporters waiting to hear the result of the election. The security guards let only those reporters who had made reservations into the press conference room; those reporters who were left out were entered the salon eventually. Shockingly the meeting was held without the head of the Athletic Education Organization and Safaie-Farahani, the head of the transitional committee, had his chair in the meeting. Shahnazy’s withdrawal from the election made Kafashian the only candidate for the head of the board and in the second position there was no real competition, between Taj and Azizmohammadi. All these made the Women’s deputy manager the only challenging part in this election.......
