Establishing sports among young girls

Shirzanan – Mahin Farhadizadeh*: Education system in Iran is the best place to start establishing sports among youths. The education system in Iran controls different development stages and ages. Therefore the best place to discover new talents in athletic activities and to develop such talents is schools. But before champions and professional athletes the public level of sports should be considered. The basic foundation of any physical activity is best formed in children younger than 11 years old. If children don’t learn basic athletic movements such as running and jumping in young ages they hardly can develop these skills as grown ups. But unfortunately schooling system only allows for two hours of athletics per week.

When is our Turn?

Shirzanan: Marjan Namazi - Translate by Roja Najafi: A week ago some of the international and national news agencies said that Saudi Arabia women’s football was shown from TV for the first time. Although shocking, the news brought with it hope and to the degree a sorrow for Iranian women’s sports community. This was hopeful since it was a sign of the development of women’s sports in the region. The sorrow however was due to the fact that with their long experience in women’s sports, Iranians always saw themselves ahead of other countries in the Middle East.

The scandalous news and the unjust punishment of one of Iran’s female youth soccer teams that a month ago had played only for a couple of minutes with a male’s youth team to a degree shows the hardship of the path that women’s sports in Iran is passing through.

It was only a year ago that Saudi Arabia’s women’s soccer team was formed and their first match behind closed doors maid headlines everywhere. While everyone was waiting for Saudi’s next step to be a baby step this year everyone was surprised with the TV coverage of a female football match in Saudi Arabia.
