Interview
Shirzanan: Fereshteh Movahed /translated by Roja Najafi: Hockey Skate was founded by combining the two sports of Skating and Ice Hockey. Like most of ball-involved games it plays in two halves. In Iran the In-Lin Skate is more common in Hockey Skate rather than Quad skates. In Iran Skate Hockey is a branch under the Skating federation and it has been said that it doesn’t have equipped facilities for women. We will have a friendly chat with Nazanin Farzin, Iran’s women’s national skate hockey team’s goalkeeper.
How old are you, Nazanin and tell us about your background?
I am 22 years old. I have been part of the skate hockey national team for two years. For now we are in a vacation. But we decided to shorten it and get back to practicing. We should not wait for the federation’s help.
What is the team plans then?
We decided we are going to do everything to be deployed to Hong Kong, even if we have to pay for our own trip. It will be the world cup for Hockey Skate in October this year. Before that we will try to have a preparatory match in Isteghlal Salon but it has lots of coordinating to do.
For your deployment what other support do you have?
Unfortunately none, we don’t even have the federation’s support. We only want them to give us the permission to participate in Hong Kong games. And if they don’t give us that we have to get the permission from Hong Kong but then we cannot play there as an Iranian team.
Do you think you have a chance to win any titles in these games?
Yes, although this will be our first appearance in any international competitions. But based on our performances so far I am hopeful.
Do you know your opponents?
No, but our coaches know about their style and level. Our coach is Mr. Hooshidary. We don’t have a female hockey skate coach in Iran.
How is your practice going on?
We practice two days a week from 10 to 12 pm.
Isn’t it late?
Yes, it is but we like it; it is cooler at that time of the night and for me with my goalkeeper’s outfit it is perfect. Our parents were worried at the beginning but now they are OK.
How are the expenses?
the equipments are expensive and we should rent the salon, which is also expensive. The only standard field belongs to Enghelab Facilities and that is 85000 Tomans for 12 sessions.
Did you have any national competitions?
Last March we had a national league with 7 teams. It was very poor competition and the referees were really responsible for that. They didn’t allow our coaches to the salon because they were all men. And the referees were not trained well.
They didn’t know what they were doing. Although the referees have to pass the educational courses and training sessions but this is a new sport and so the classes were not standard.
What do you expect from the federation?
We want to be deployed to international games: we have an appropriate Islamic outfit and we don’t know what is the objection. Last year the world competition was in India and they didn’t let us go.
Do you have any hopes under these circumstances?
Yes, I love this sport and when I play I forget all of my problems.
